Blogstar Spotlight

This month’s Blogstar Make Along is for the knitters among you.  Called The Special Stripy Blanket, Julia Marsh from Hand Knitted Things has released a new colour way called Sea Breeze in our Special Chunky together with a competition which we told you about last week.

We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to find out more about Julia so grab a cuppa and delve into her world.

Tell us a bit about you?

I learnt the basics of knitting as a child, but it wasn’t until decades later I picked up the needles again, began enjoying the craft and teaching myself new knitting techniques. Currently I’m dividing my time between two bases, one in Yorkshire, the other a small croft on the west coast of Scotland.

What inspires you?

The countryside and highland coastal scenery provides much of my inspiration. One of my popular designs is based on a traditional highland croft house on the west coast.

When did you start blogging?

My blog Hand Knitted Things began over a decade ago in 2008 as a way of documenting my knitting projects and sharing them with others.

What kind of things does your blog cover?

Mainly writing about items I’ve knitted, these include hats, gloves, scarves, homewares and toys. Over the years I’ve also included tutorials, yarn reviews, visits to yarn festivals.

Recently becoming a grandma, there’s been a lot of knitted baby items appearing. Also, I occasionally I feature other designers who catch my eye.

As well as your blog, which other social media can people find you on?

I’m most active on Instagram and I also have a Facebook page.

Which Stylecraft yarn is your favourite?

I love Batik DK for the wide range of semi solid colours and the look of it when knitted. This has been used for small toys and larger projects with lovely results.
