Helen KurtzBlogstarMy love of crafting started early – I was always making outfits for my dolls and I had to squeeze myself into bed alongside all the soft toys I’d sewn! I don’t remember exactly when I learnt to knit but I think I was around 7 or 8. I still have a couple of garter-stitch scarves with wonky edges that I knitted for my teddies.

It was the summer after I’d taken my ‘O’-levels when my love of knitting really started. I was at a loose end so my Mum suggested that I knit something. I don’t think she was expecting me to choose a complicated picture jumper! I loved the challenge and that was the first of many garments that came off my needles.

My dream job was to have my own knitting shop, but real life kicked in and I became a teacher. Work took over and I lost touch with knitting until 2007 when I was on holiday. I happened to walk past a yarn shop and was totally seduced by some yarn in the window. I dragged my husband inside, emerged with a couple of skeins and haven’t looked back since! By day, I’m still a teacher, but my spare time is filled with yarn.

I’ve recently starting designing and publishing patterns and am delighted to be part of the Stylecraft Blogger team. It’s all very exciting and I’m looking forward to playing with lots of new yarn!
